Before her loss to Serena in the second round of Stanford, Maria Kirilenko was on song in the press room discussing a variety of different topics, including how Dushevina ruined Dementieva’s attempt at throwing the bouquet of flowers to her.
But my favourite quote?
“The first time I played her I was 16 and it was at the French Open… I was up 4-2 in the third set and lost 6-4 in the third set. I was small. I also wasn’t even thinking about anything - I just went out there and played. I have to do the same thing this time, just not think about it. I’ve seen video of my matches back then and my face was always so serious and focused - I think I’m still like that.”
You think? Don’t worry Maria, you are definitely still like that.
