The Hopman Cup Fights Back
After the devastating and extremely confusing news that ABC, the Hopman Cup’s host broadcaster, was ditching the event to focus on “less popular events”, all seemed lost. However the show must go on and it has emerged today that Australian Broadcaster ONE will be picking up the event. They have also announced a stellar players list so far; with Grand Slam Champions Serena Williams, Justine Henin and Ana Ivanovic all listed to take part in the event among male players Novak Djokovic, Gael Monfils and John Isner. This event has been a favourite with fans for years not and so they will be undoubtebly be breathing a sigh of relief following this news.
Full player list:
* USA – Serena Williams and John Isner
* Serbia – Ana Ivanovic and Novak Djokovic
* Belgium – Justine Henin and Steve Darcis
* France – Kristina Mladenovic and Gael Monfils
* Australia – Lleyton Hewitt (partner tbc)
The 2011 event runs from 1-8 January at Perth’s Burswood Dome and the remaining players will be announced in October.
