Quotable Quotes: Gilles Simon Gets A Little Outspoken

Ahead of the clash between France and Austria later this week, Gilles Simon is said to have spoken out about differences between himself and French captain Guy Forget, and his inability to accept his natural game and style of play.

“Guy has a vision for action and I play more in response. Guy was an attacking player. He won the Davis Cup and Bercy with aggression. That’s how he sees the game and I respect that, but it does not stick at all to my game. “

Gilles also allegedly spoke about Forget’s blunder in last year’s Davis Cup final, in which he infamously dumped Gilles in the fifth and final rubber in favour of Michael Llodra. Llodra was crushed 2-6 2-6 3-6 by Viktor Troicki, a player who has lost all five matches played against Simon. However, in the official Davis Cup press conference, Gilles backpedaled, denouncing the alleged comments and saying he would “never forgive” the reporter who wrote the initial article.

Even if he does have his problems with Forget, he did the right thing. After all, the French team is going to need all the team spirit in the world, and leader Gilles as clear a head as possible, if they want to take out Austria in Vienna on clay.
