Foot Fault!

There were upsets gallore today at the $25k ITF event in Burnie, Australia, as the top two seeds were ousted by young upstarts. The first to bite the dust was home favourite Sally Peers, who was defeated by young Canadian Eugenie Bouchard 1-6 6-2 6-3. Following in Peers’ footsteps was the younger (but no less vicious) Rodionova, Arina, who fell to Australian 18 year-old Sophie Letcher 6-7 6-4 6-3.

Burnie is pretty much the place to be this week, as far as the Women’s ITF challengers go. As per usual, the players that participated in the Australian Open Juniors stayed on in Oz to try their luck in the few Australian ITFs scheduled immediately after. Thus, other notable winners on day one include Daria Gavrilova, Caroline Garcia, Nastja Kolar, Irina Khromacheva, Olivia Rogowska, Yulia Putintseva and Saisai Zheng.
