Kateryna Bondarenko Wins In Bratislava

It has been quite a tough year for Kateryna Bondarenko. After all the promise she showed in reaching the US Open quarterfinals last year, 2010 has seen her injured for most of the first half of the year, and then struggling to find any sort of form or rhythm in the second half. Not to mention the indignation of being handed the dreaded double bagel by Maria Kirilenko in her final WTA match of the season at the Kremlin Cup.

Admirably, rather than just giving up at the end of the WTA season and having a break, K-Bond has decided to soldier on in the lowly ITF events with the hope of making the cut for the Australian Open Main Draw. She was actually pushed in certain rounds of the $25k this week in Bratislava, but she got through it in one piece, defeating Evgeniya Rodina in the final, 7-6(3) 6-2.
